Four Mustangs score in UCHC, MAC victory at Lebanon Valley

HERSHEY, Pa. - Stevenson Men's Hockey traveled to Hersheypark Arena tonight for game two against the Flying Dutchmen. After last night's 6-2 win, the Mustangs would bring home a 4-1 victory and earn UCHC and MAC points for their efforts.

Junior Liam McCanney got the Mustangs started with his goal just past the halfway point of the first period, burying a pass from senior Frank Vitucci on a 2-on-0. McCanney's goal accounts for his 11th of the season while Vitucci boasts five assists.

The remainder of the first period was goalless, as was the first half of the second period. First year Rhett Evjen would break the stalemate in style, finding the back of the net with a between-the-legs shot. Senior Zach Bannister was credited with the primary setup while sophomore Blake Benson earned the assist for his feed to Bannister. The goal was Evjen's fifth while the assists were Bannister's eighth and Benson's team-leading tenth.

Fifty-eight seconds later, Vitucci would extend the Mustangs' lead to 3-0, intercepting a rogue pass from a Dutchman defenseman in the slot and firing a quick shot past Lebanon Valley goaltender Jadon Lee. Vitucci's second point of the night puts him at nine on the season.

The host team would make their way onto the board in the third on a power-play, but the Mustangs would regain the three-goal lead within three minutes. Bannister was awarded a penalty shot after being tripped on a breakaway, and he made the most of it with a five-hole goal to seal the deal for Stevenson. Bannister's goal tonight is his sixth of the season and his 14 points rank him third on the team.

In net, junior Ty Outen made 31 saves, including 15 in the second period. The win was his 11th of the season and his save count stands at 518 for a .947 save percentage.

The win puts Stevenson at 12-4-1 overall, 8-3-1 in the UCHC, and 4-2 in the MAC. The Mustangs will travel to Pittsburgh next weekend to face Chatham University on Friday and Saturday, January 19th and 20th at the Hunt Armory.
