WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Stevenson Women's Ice Hockey traveled to Wilkes University today for game one of their series with the Colonels. Though the first period would conclude with a 1-1 tie, the hosts would rally for three unanswered goals to come away with a 4-1 UCHC victory.
Wilkes scored less than three minutes into the game and maintained the lead for most of the period. Senior Franki Cappello would even the score on the power-play with under two minutes to go via classmates Gracie Payne and Cassie Campbell. The goal was Cappello's fourth of the season while Payne and Campbell's assists were their fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Mustangs totaled 29 shots on goal, led by sophomore Meghan Croyle and first year Emma DeMan with four apiece. Campbell won a game-high 14 draws in the circle, followed by DeMan with seven wins.
DeMan also logged a game-high four blocks. Senior Emily Brightbill, sophomores Maggie Dean and Natasha Neelon, as well as first year Lola Russell blocked two shots each in front of senior Ainsley King.
King made 36 saves in the effort, including 18 in the first period alone. So far this season, she has 163 saves and a .916 save percentage.Â
The Mustangs look to even the series with the Colonels tomorrow night at the Toyota SportsPlex. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
