OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Alvernia built on a nine-point halftime lead on Saturday, taking a 87-71 decision over Stevenson in men's basketball play.
The Golden Wolves (12-5, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth) put all five starters in double figures with Kegan Hertz scoring 21 points and Robert Mullan netting 19.
Stevenson (7-10, 1-5 MAC Commonwealth) got 21 points off the bench from
Kamau Mitchell with
Cameron Smith scoring 12. Mitchell was 8-for-10 from the field as the Mustangs shot 51.5 percent (17-for-33) from the field in the second half.
Alvernia put the game out of reach midway through the first half, as trailing 12-8, the Golden Wolves went on a 22-1 scoring run over a five minute span to go up 30-13 and never looked back.
Smith had a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds, while
Ryan Newell corralled seven rebounds on the afternoon.
Stevenson completes its first half MAC Commonwealth schedule on Wednesday, traveling to Messiah.
