REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Women's Hockey rounded out their series with tenth-ranked Utica University this afternoon on home ice. Strong first and third periods for Utica would lead them to a 7-1 win.
After three Utica goals in the opening period, first year Carleigh Barwick interrupted their momentum on the Mustangs' power-play with her fifth goal of the season. The initial shot came from junior Maddie Silverman and first year Abby Smith got a piece of it before Barwick finished the job. The assists are Smith's third and Silverman's second.
Stevenson fended off Utica's offense throughout the entire second period as junior netminder Olivia DeGuire stopped all 22 shots she faced after making 19 first-period stops. She would add 12 in the third to bring her game total to a career-high 53.
Utica would capitalize on bounces in the third, bringing their goal count to seven by the game's end.
Senior Emily Brightbill and sophomore Kendall Girnt each tallied a game-high three blocks, followed by Silverman, Barwick, senior Gracie Payne, sophomore Maggie Dean, and first year Emma DeMan with two apiece.
Dean, Barwick, DeMan, Smith, and senior Cassie Campbell combined for 22 face-off wins.
The Mustangs return to action next Friday and Saturday, January 19th and 20th, as they travel to Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
