OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's soccer team paved a milestone in Stevenson Athletic's history, as the team played the first ever game on the new Bermuda grass game field on the Owings Mills East campus. The Mustangs finished Wednesday evening's match up with a 2-2 draw with Salisbury.
The Mustangs opened scoring on the evening with a goal in the fifth minute, with a goal from
Gianfranco Vitella off a ball from
Brian Rogowski. About six minutes later,
Bryant Seivers put away a penalty kick goal to notch a 2-0 lead. In the 17
th minute, Salisbury put away their first goal in the match up. The teams battled to a 2-1 score at the half.
In the second half, both teams stepped up their intensity as they battled through the half. The Seagulls took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity in the 71
st minute to tie up the game 2-2 to save Salisbury from the loss. Despite offensive efforts from Stevenson, the match came to a 2-2 draw.
Vitella, Seivers,
Joe Nicholson, and
Leo Borda each registered a shot on goal in the match up. Vitella and Seivers registered a two -point game with a goal each, as Rogowski notched an assist.
Nolen Olson-Warwick stood in net for the first time this season for the Mustangs and made seven saves.
The Mustangs will remain home on Owings Mills East as the squad prepares to face Neumann University on Saturday afternoon. First touch is set for 4 p.m.
