Palmer, Gladstein score in one-goal loss to Mary Washington

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson Field Hockey hosted the University of Mary Washington this afternoon at Owings Mills East. After a back-and-forth battle of the offenses, a last-second penalty stroke would seal the Mustangs' fate as the Eagles went on to win 3-2.

The first quarter would end scoreless before Mary Washington scored just minutes into the second. Junior Haley Palmer would get the equalizer three minutes later, scoring off of a pass from senior Rylee Leakway after she received the penalty corner pass from classmate Emma Gladstein.

The Eagles would score once more in the second to regain the lead, and no one would find the back of the net in the third.

After over 35 minutes without a goal, Emma Gladstein scored her 11th goal of the season in dramatic fashion to tie the game at two with just over one minute remaining in regulation.

Multiple squabbles in front of the Mustangs' net in the final seconds of the game would result in several penalty corners and the eventual game-winning penalty stroke, for which first-year Reagan Wildasin entered to face.

First-year Jordan Vradenburgh started the game in goal, making five saves in her 30-minute stint. Senior Eve Vickery entered at the half, stopping all eight shots fired her way.

To the goalkeepers' aid, first-year Sarah Bisson racked up a game-high three defensive saves, followed by senior Meghan Huey with two. Haley Palmer and first-year Lauren Schulz tallied one save each.

Gladstein led the offensive charge with three shots on goal, and her score elevates her point total on the year to 28. Palmer logged two shots on goal while Huey, Leakway, and first-year Vivian Merry each tallied one.

Stevenson sits at 6-4 heading into their final contest prior to conference play. The Mustangs will travel down the road to Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday, October 4th for a 7 PM matchup before returning to Owings Mills East for their MAC Commonwealth opener against Albright College.
