OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (5-6) notched a 32-5 win over the Albright College Lions on Wednesday evening in Mustang Stadium. In the MAC Commonwealth matchup, 17 Mustangs put away goals.
In the first quarter, the Mustangs shutout the Lions 13-0. The first goal for Stevenson came at 13:57 with a goal from
Ryan Coleman off a ball from
Grant Zick. Three minutes later,
Andrew Searing put up the second goal with an assist from
Griffin Gast. At 9:24 John Brannan put away his first goal of the evening off a pass from Coleman and about a minute later Brannan assisted a goal for
Shane Ford to make it a 4-0 game. With about seven minutes remaining in the quarter,
Alexander Wilson put away an unassisted goal for
Cam Leydig to follow and do the same less than a minute later. At 5:33, Brannan put away an unassisted goal, and right after winning the following faceoff,
Justin Bordner took advantage of the fast break to net the eighth goal for the Mustangs. Two minutes later, Coleman put away an unassisted point, and 14 seconds later
Damien Schmidt fired one away with an assist from Graeme Mcrory. At 2:23,
Dillion Linhardt grabbed an unassisted goal, and with a minute and a half remaining Ford put another away off a pass from Zick. To cap off the quarter,
Jack McKenna fired a buzzer-beater to notch the 13-0 lead going into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Leydig started scoring off right away with a goal 34 seconds in. Four minutes later, Coleman converted on a man-up opportunity off a pass from Linhardt. With 5:45 remaining in the half, Albright put their first goal away on a man-up advantage, but Brannan replied less than a minute later with another goal. At 3:19, Ford slotted a goal off a ball from Leydig, as
Ryan Coleman put away another man-up goal less than a minute later. Robbie Vanderkulgt then put up a goal with 32 seconds remaining to make it a 19-1 game, but
Josh Brannan fired one more away with a second on the clock to make it a 20-1 contest at half.
The Mustangs started scoring in the third quarter at 14:05 with a goal from
Luke Wetzel off another Zick assist, as Coleman followed with another goal 30 seconds later. Just about a minute later, Brannan nets yet another goal off a pass from Wetzel to notch the 23-1 game. With a little over 10 minutes left on the clock, Graeme Mcrory put up an unassisted goal, as Quinn did the same about two minutes later. At 7:13, Wetzel notched his second goal of the contest off an assist from Searing. Wilson then tallied a goal with an assist from Wetzel with under five minutes left in the quarter. Wetzel then put a third goal away at 1:29 to slate the 28-1 lead going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Will Riemenschnieder put up the first goal of the quarter at 13:20 with an assist from
Colin Dobbins, as
Matt Byron followed 16 seconds later to make it a 30-1 game. With 12:15 on the clock,
Colin Abbonizio slotted a goal off a ball from Bryon. The Lions put up a second goal at 10:07, but about a minute later Byron nets a second goal to make it 32-2. In the last nine minutes of the matchup, Albright put away three goals, but the Mustangs had already confirmed the wining decision. Stevenson took the 32-5 victory.
Coleman slotted a seven-point game as Brannan grabbed a six-point game. Ford and Wetxel each put away hat tricks, as Zick led the assists column with three on the evening. Bordner not only secured a goal but picked up 12 ground balls, while winning 21 out of 23 faceoffs he took. Quinn led the caused turnover column with four against the Lions. All five goalies made an appearance in net for a combined five saves.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 11 as they face the Blazers of Hood College at 7 p.m.
