OWINGS MILLS, Md.— The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (6-6 Overall, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) slotted a 23-8 win over the Hood College Blazers in Mustang Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Although the Blazers came out hot defensively for the first few minutes of the contest, the Mustangs soon went on a 10-goal scoring streak in the first quarter. At 11:40,
Alexander Wilson opened scoring off a ball from
Andrew Searing to get the Mustangs on the board.
Shane Ford followed with his first goal of the evening with an assist from
Josh Brannan only 13 seconds later. About a minute later, Searing grabbed a third goal for the Mustangs off a pass from Ford, as Ford then put away another goal at 9:31 with an assist from Brannan. At 5:49, Brannan put up the fifth goal for Stevenson with an assist from
Grant Zick. Less than a minute later, Searing put away another goal off another Ford assist. With 3:20 left in the quarter,
Cam Leydig joined the goal column with an assist from
Ryan Coleman, as
Ed Masterson followed 16 seconds later with another goal.
Griffin Gast put a ninth goal away for Stevenson at 1:37, but
Shane Ford capped off a 10-0 quarter with a goal with less than a minute on the clock.
In the second quarter, Brannan opened scoring with a man-up goal off a pass from Ford 30 seconds into the quarter. Ford then followed less than a minute later with another goal to make it a 12-0 game. The Blazers put up their first goal of the game with 11:04 left in the half, but the Mustangs then retaliated with four more goals before halftime. With just under eight minutes left on the clock, Searing put away another goal for the Mustangs during a man-up opportunity with an assist from Ford, as Ford then assisted a goal from Leydig a few minutes after. At 1:31, Brannan put away a goal with assistance from
Ryan Quinn, and
Jack Scaliti notched another goal shortly after to slate the 16-1 lead at halftime.
Ford started off scoring in the second half of the contest, with a goal three minutes into the third quarter, as Zick followed a minute later to notch a 18-1 game. With under eight minutes on the clock, Hood put up their second goal of the match up, but Searing responded with two more goals. The Blazers then tallied a third goal at 1:02 to make it a 20-3 game going into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter was mainly filled with a comeback attempt from the Blazers. Hood put away two goals in the first five minutes of the quarter, as
Matt Byron notched the twenty-first goal for Stevenson with an assist from Conner Remington. The Blazers then responded with two more goals, as
Conor Halpin put away another at 3:14. Hood put up their eighth goal at 2:17, but
Max Racich put up one last goal off a ball from
Will Riemenschneider to cap off the 23-8 win for Stevenson.
Shane Ford tallied an individual game career-high of 11 points, consisting of five goals and six assists.
Andrew Searing followed with seven points, from five goals and two assists, also notching a career-high in points and goals. Brannan slotted a hattrick for Stevenson, while also handing out two assists.
Justin Bordner dominated in faceoffs, winning 15 out of 22, and picked up seven ground balls. Connor Halpin and
Nicholas Mulvey each picked up two ground balls.
The Mustangs will prepare to travel to Chester, Pa. to face Widener University in MAC Commonwealth play. Start of the contest is set for 1 p.m.
