Men’s Lacrosse Takes Down Widener Pride

CHESTER, Pa. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (7-6 Overall, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) took down Widener 24-11 in MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday afternoon.
 
Shane Ford tallied the first point of the contest with an unassisted goal with just under 12 minutes on the clock in the first quarter. Came Leydig notched the second goal for the Mustangs at 6:18, as Andrew Searing followed with the third goal about a minute later off a ball from Griffin Gast. With under five minutes left to play in the first quarter, Ford netted another goal for Stevenson. The Pride then followed with two goals, but the Mustangs led the game 4-2 going into the second quarter.
 
Dillion Linhardt started scoring of the second quarter at 13:44 with an assist from Ryan Coleman on a man-up opportunity, as Jack Scaliti followed 18 seconds later with a sixth goal. At 9:37, Leydig put up an unassisted point as Searing followed and put up an eighth goal for the Mustangs. The Pride then grabbed their third goal of the game, but Josh Brannan responded less than a minute later to make it a 9-3 game. Widener's Heisman then grabbed another goal for the Pride at 6:26, but Ford retaliated with two goals as Brannan put up another to walk into halftime with a 12-4 lead.
 
In the third quarter, Widener opened play in the first three minutes with two goals, but the Mustangs replied with a five-goal scoring streak. At 10:46, Brannan put away a goal, as Zick followed with a fourteenth goal for Stevenson with another Ford assist. Brannan and Ford then each put away goals just under nine minutes left in the quarter, as Jack McKenna joined the goals column with 6:54 on the clock. Under a minute later, the Pride put up another goal, but Brannan and Scaliti each put up a goal to slot the 19-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
 
Widener started off the fourth quarter with four goals, but Stevenson then responded with five goals between Graeme Mcrory, Ford, and Searing to cap off the 24-11 victory over the Pride.
 
Shane Ford put up a 12-point afternoon with seven goals and five assists, as Brannan followed with a seven-point contest. Justin Bordner was dominate on the face off and won 21 in the match up while picking up 14 ground balls. Justin Scorese was a defensive asset in the contest for Stevenson and made 17 saves between the pipes.
 
The Mustangs will prepare to travel to Grantham, Pa. on Tuesday to face the Messiah Falcons in MAC Commonwealth action. The contest is slated to start at 7 p.m.
