Mustangs Take Down Alvernia 24-2 in Last Regular Season Game

READING, Pa. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (10-7 Overall, 7-1 MAC Commonwealth) picks up a win against MACC opponent, Alvernia on Saturday afternoon, with a 24-2 victory.

The Mustangs opened the game with a bang and 11 goals. Ryan Coleman started it off, with a goal at 1 minute and 8 seconds in the first quarter. Less than two minutes later, Coleman strikes again with an assist by Jack Scaliti. The third goal at occurred at 9:48 with a goal by Shane Ford assisted by Josh Brannan. Then, at 8:22 Cam Leydig grabbed a goal assisted by Scaliti. A minute later, Graeme McCrory scored an unassisted sixth goal of the game. Ford then netted an unassisted goal with 3 minutes left in the first quarter. At 2:20, Ryan Quinn slotted the ball in the net off an assist by Josh Brannan. Grant Zick then clinched his fourteenth goal of the season, with an assist by Scaliti with 37 seconds left in the quarter. 7 seconds later, Justin Bordner grabbed the last goal for the Mustangs in the first, unassisted.
 
In the second quarter, Ford continued the scoring streak with an assisted goal from Robbie Vanderklugt 48 seconds in. Brannan then tallied a goal a minute later, assisted by Cam Leydig. At 7:38, Cam Leydig notched an assisted goal by Ford. Then, Coleman scored his third goal of the game unassisted less than 30 seconds later. The Golden Wolves made a goal appearance with 4 minutes left in the game, making the game 15-1. Ford notched another goal for the Mustangs at 3:27 assisted by Alexander Wilson. Dillion Linhardt then grabbed a goal off a pass from Coleman at 1:26. Bringing the score for the second quarter to 18-1, Wilson scored an unassisted goal with 42 seconds left.
 
Jack McKenna began the third quarter with an unassisted goal 3 minutes in. Shortly after, Shaun Padden scored his second goal this season, unassisted, at 10:54. 40 seconds later, Ford assisted a goal by Max Racich. With 5:20 left in the third, Collin Abbonizio clinched a goal assisted by Ford. Another goal for the Mustangs, 10 seconds later, Thomas Bethune grabbed his first goal of the season off an assist by Common Remington. Alvernia scored their second goal with 3 minutes left.
 
The game's last goal was scored in the fourth quarter at 10:46 by Ryan Bauco with an assist by Jared Monar. The Mustangs claimed the victory leaving the score 24-2.
 
Coming up, the Mustangs will play in the MAC Commonwealth playoffs as they were placed as the second seed right behind York. The semifinal round will take place on Wednesday, May 3 at the Mustang Stadium against the third seed, Eastern.  The 2023 championship game will take place on Saturday, May 6 at the highest remaining seed.
