OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (9-7 Overall, 6-1 MAC Commonwealth) fell to the No. 11 York Spartans 6-13 on Wednesday evening in Mustang Stadium. After the loss, the team will be slotted second in MAC Commonwealth post season play, behind first seeded York.
In the first quarter, the Spartans opened with a goal with 12:23 on the clock. The Mustangs battled on attack and Graeme Mcrory was able to put Stevenson on the board with an unassisted goal with about five and a half minutes on the clock. York responded less than a minute later, but
Josh Brannan put one away off a pass from
Griffin Gast to tie the game 2-2 at the end of the quarter.
York started the second quarter with a three-goal streak to take a 5-2 lead. With about five minutes left in the half,
Ryan Coleman netted a goal with an assist from
Jack Scaliti during a man-up opportunity. The Spartans replied with three more goals, but Coleman responded with an unassisted buzzer beater goal to make it an 4-8 game at halftime for Stevenson.
Coleman began the third period how he ended the second, with an unassisted goal. Despite efforts from the Mustangs, the Spartans pulled away on a five-goal streak to grab a 13-5 lead.
In the fourth quarter,
Cam Leydig put the sixth goal away for Stevenson and the lone goal of the quarter. Despite all offensive efforts for the Mustangs, York walked away with the 13-6 win.
The Mustangs will prepare to travel to Alvernia this weekend to face the Golden Wolves in the last regular season contest of the season. Start of the game is set for 1 p.m.
