Box Score STEVENSON, Md. - The second-seeded Stevenson men's tennis team earned a spot into the MAC Commonwealth finals after defeating third-seeded Messiah in the semifinals by a 5-1 score at the Greenspring Courts.
Larry Johnson III and
JJ Bonta picked up a hard-fought win in No. 1 doubles, 8-7 (8-6), while
Lukas Sanidas and
Chad Smialek downed their No. 2 opponents by an 8-3 score.
Sathwik Madasi and
Simeon Smith fell in a competitive No. 3 match, 8-5.
In singles play, Sanidas made quick work of his No. 3 opponent, 6-1, 6-0, while Smialek took down his No. 6 opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Bonta clinched the win for the Mustangs after taking his No. 2 match by a 6-3, 6-2 score. The remaining matches were halted once Stevenson clinched the win.
The Mustangs, who will be making their fourth-straight appearance in the MAC Commonwealth finals, will take on top-seeded Lebanon Valley on Saturday, April 29. Stevenson will be looking to avenge its loss to the Dutchmen in last year's conference final.
