STEVENSON, Md. – The Stevenson University men's tennis team starts its run in the 2023 MAC Commonwealth Championships on Tuesday, as the second-seeded Mustangs (10-6, 6-1 MAC Commonwealth) hosted third-seeded Messiah University (8-7, 5-2) in the semifinals.
The winner advances to Saturday's final against either top-seeded Lebanon Valley or fourth-seeded York.
The two teams met back on Tuesday, April 11, as Stevenson won by a score of 7-2.
Stevenson is led by
Lukas Sanidas who has an 11-3 record overall and 8-1 record at number three flight singles.
JJ Bonta is 10-4 overall and went 9-4 at number two flight singles.
Larry Johnson III,
Sathwik Madasi and
Chad Smialek all have eight wins on the season.
Johnson III and Bonta have teamed up at number one doubles to go 7-4, while Smialek and Sandias have gone 5-1 at number two flight.
Stevenson has advanced to the finals the last three times (championship was not contested in 2020 due to the pandemic), with the Mustangs winning the crown in 2019 and 2021. Stevenson lost to Lebanon Valley in last year's championship, 5-2.
