Owings Mills, Md. – Mustangs lose both ends of the doubleheader in close battles with Alvernia on Sunday afternoon.
With 6-5 and 10-8 wins for Alvernia, the Mustangs fall to 17-16 overall, and 10-11 in the MAC Commonwealth. Stevenson trails Messiah for the final playoff spot as they are 12-9 in conference. The Falcons take on Hood, who are tied with the Mustangs, for a three-game series on April 28
th and 29
th to wrap up the season.
Game One
The Mustangs scored the first three runs of the game to build an early lead.
Amani Jones,
Billy McAdam, and
Nick Tamberino collected the RBIs.
Alvernia tied the game in the fifth inning, but the Mustangs regained the lead as McAdam singled to center field, driving home
Trent Smoot. Jones then singled to right center to send
Dylan Scott across home plate, making the score 5-3.
The next inning, Alvernia's T. Faggioni tripled, scoring two. The Golden Wolves ended the sixth and the game on top 6-5.
Game Two
The Mustangs again took a 3-0 first inning lead. After walking and getting around to third, McAdam found himself scoring on a balk.
Dylan Young then singled to left field to bring home Jones. Finally,
Nick Tamberino scored on a wild pitch.
Alvernia went on to score eight straight runs and led after the top of the sixth.
Stevenson mustered four runs in the bottom of the sixth to put some pressure on the Wolves including doubles from
Jonathan Brandt and Tamberino.
Alvernia plated a pair of runs in the seventh and took game two 10-8.
