Massimini Sets Game-High Personal Record, Coccia with Hat Trick in Win at Eastern

ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – Stevenson women's lacrosse (6-9, 4-2) established an early offensive push, resulting in a 17-4 win against the Eastern University Eagles (1-13, 0-6) on Saturday afternoon at Olson Field.
 
First year attack/ midfield Marisa Massimini set new records for herself this game, scoring four goals on five shots, and successfully capturing three draw controls. Sophomore attack/ midfield Kellyann Coccia earned a hat trick, while three other Mustangs scored two goals each to assist in the early lead. All four goalies played in the game, with first year Anna Johnston notching four saves while allowing three Eagle goals.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Massimini got the Mustangs on the board early with a goal within the first minute of play. Isabelle VanEmburgh followed suit just under two minutes later, bringing the score to 2-0. Coccia led the offensive charge, with two shots on goal that were ultimately saved and an off-target shot. The push allowed  Massimini to score the third goal, with 7:38 remaining, off a free position. Totaling seven goals in the first quarter, the Mustangs did not allow the Eagles an attempt until nine seconds remained, which was saved by senior goalie Sophie Shucosky. The score at the end of the first quarter was 7-0 in favor of the Mustangs.
 
SECOND QUARTER
Stevenson's Hanna Ash was first to score in the second quarter off a free position. Coccia followed seconds later, bringing the score to 9-0. Working in tandem, Massimini and VanEmburgh each saw a goal minutes after an Eastern timeout, bringing the score to 11-0. The Eagles got on the board with their first goal with 5:30 remaining, but the Mustangs still held on to a 10-goal lead. Stevenson added two more goals, with the final goal of the half coming from the team's  newly added first year attack Allie Piccalo. The score was 13-1 at halftime.
 
THIRD QUARTER
The Mustangs denied an attempt from the Eagles about four minutes into quarter three play. The Mustangs managed to score twice in the quarter, bringing their count to 15. The first arrived from Coccia with 7:45 remaining, and the second from first year attack Ella Cook with 2:40 remaining.  With those two goals, the score was 15-1 at the end of the third quarter.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Following an attempt from Eastern that was denied by the Mustangs, Stevenson's Hannah Zimmer added a goal at 12:30 on the clock. The Eagles answered with a second goal at 9:52. Three of Johnston's saves came  in this quarter, denying the Eagles three times while allowing three goals. Before the game ended, a top-off goal from Coccia came with three seconds remaining. The game ended in the final 17-4 decision for the Mustangs.
