ANNVILLE, Pa. - In a matchup between the two remaining unbeaten teams in the MAC Commonwealth, Lebanon Valley topped the Mustangs by a 6-3 score to earn the top seed in the conference semifinals. The Mustangs, who fell to 6-1 in conference play with the loss, will be the No. 2 seed in Wednesday's semifinal.
Larry Johnson III and
JJ Bonta opened up doubles play with an 8-5 win in No. 1, giving them a regular season record of 9-4.
Chad Smialek and
Lukas Sanidas lost by an 8-4 score in No. 2, dropping their record to 5-1.
Simeon Smith and
Sathwik Madasi fell by an 8-2 score in No. 3 - dropping their record to 4-2.
Bonta won his 10th match in No. 2 singles by a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 score, while Sanidas picked up the other singles win for the Mustangs, 7-6 (7-5), 3-1 (withdraw). Sanidas has a team leading 11 wins on the year.
Madasi won the first set in No. 4, but would eventually fall in heartbreaking fashion, 3-6, 7-5, 12-10, which dropped his record to 8-5. Smialek fell in No. 6 by a 6-4, 6-3 score - giving him an 8-4 record on the year.
Before hosting third-seeded Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals on Tuesday, April 25, the Mustangs will face off against Salisbury in a road match on Sunday, April 23 at 1 p.m.
