OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (9-6 Overall, 6-0 MAC Commonwealth) picks up their seventh straight win against the Eastern Eagles on Friday evening, with a 21-6 victory. Prior to the contest the team recognized their 2023 senior class, and during halftime welcomed home the 2013 NCAA Championship team.
The Mustangs opened scoring, with an unassisted crease roll goal from
Shane Ford, two and a half minutes in. Less than a minute later, Ford then netted a second goal off a feed from
Jack Scaliti. At 7:23,
Josh Brannan put an unassisted goal to put Stevenson up 3-0. The rest of the quarter was a back-and-forth battle and ended 3-0, in the Mustangs favor.
Grant Zick started off scoring in the second quarter, with a goal 41 seconds into the quarter, as
Griffin Gast followed less than 30 seconds later with a fast break goal. At 10:53,
Cam Leydig put away a goal off a pass from Zick, as Eastern followed with a fast break goal off the faceoff to get on the board. Six seconds later, Justin Border followed with a goal following a faceoff win to make it a 7-1 game.
Dillion Linhardt then notched a man up goal off an assist from
Ryan Coleman, with under nine minutes remaining. At 6:54,
Damien Schmidt made it a 9-1 game, as Leydig followed two and half minutes later with an assist from Zick. Graeme Mcrory then tallied a goal with 4:11 on the clock off a fast break to slot the 11-1 lead. Eastern put up their second goal with under three minutes remaining, but Stevenson replied with two man-up goals. At 1:28, Leydig netted a goal off a feed from Coleman, as Searing followed with another goal off a Coleman assist. Stevenson led the contest 13-2.
The Eagles tallied the first goal of the third quarter, with their third goal of the game at 13:55. Ford then replied with a goal off a pass from
Ryan Quinn, and Zick put away an unassisted goal to slot a 15-3 game. Four minutes later Zick puts another away during a man-down period, as the Eagles responded with another goal less than a minute later. At 2:44, Coleman put his first goal of the night away to slate a 17-4 lead. With just 14 seconds on the clock Brannan put an eighteenth goal away for the Mustangs off a ball from Scaliti.
In the fourth quarter, D. Linhardt put up the first goal of the quarter with 13:48 on the clock, with an assist from Zick, and about a minute later Ford put away the twentieth goal for Stevenson on a crease roll. At 6:26, made put the 21
st tally on the board for Stevenson. The Eagles then followed with two more goals with under five to play. Despite the last-minute efforts from the Eagles, the Mustangs claimed the 21-6 victory.
The Mustangs will remain home to face York (Pa.) on Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth action. Faceoff is slated for 7 p.m.
