Reading, Pa. – Stevenson baseball fell to Alvernia University 6-4 on Friday afternoon as their late push fell just short.
After giving up four runs in the first inning, the Mustangs were unable to complete the comeback falling to 17-14 overall and 10-9 in the MAC Commonwealth.
Brady Power was dealt the loss, going 5.0 innings, moving to 2-4 on the season.
How it Happened
Alvernia plated four runs in the first inning and another off a homerun in the third.
In the fourth,
Nick Tamberino grounded out to the shortstop, which would send
Amani Jones home who singled to lead off the inning.
Jonathan Brandt then send a grounder to the second basemen, driving in
Tommy Holcomb.
The Golden Wolves scored a pair of runs in the fourth, increasing their advantage to 6-2.
A third Mustang run came around in the fifth as
Alex Russo sent out a sacrifice fly out to left field scoring
Trent Smoot.
The final run for Stevenson was scored in the eighth when Jones singled out to right field sending Russo home.
The Mustangs threatened in the ninth with runners on first and second and one out but were unable to bring them around to score.
Inside the box
- Jones led the way at the plate going 3-4 at the plate with a double.
- Jake Pigeon came out of the bullpen for 3.0 innings, giving up a lone hit, and striking out two batters.

The Mustangs return home on Sunday, April 23 to wrap up the three-game series with Alvernia. The first pitch for game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
