Heuer throws two-hitter as softball splits with Alvernia

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – In a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, the Stevenson University softball team took the first game of the set by a 4-0 score.

In the nightcap, Alvernia (8-8, 1-5 MAC Commowealth) outslugged the Mustangs (13-8, 5-1 MAC Commonwealth) 8-4.

Game 1
Despite winds blowing out to right, Stevenson scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as starting pitcher Marissa Heuer helped her own cause with a RBI single that scored Jordan Fangman for the first run of the game.

Megan Hamp would score the second run of the game on a fielding error, followed by a RBI double from Rivers Edwards that scored Elizabeth Russo. Rebecca Henry would then scored on a RBI double by Kat Perea for the fourth and final run.

Heuer scattered just two hits in the complete game win, her eighth of the season. She struck out four and walked three.

Edwarda and McKenzie Tobler each had two hits in the win.

Game 2
Alvernia struck first in game 2, darting out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the second before Stevenson struck back with three of their own to get withing one.

The first two runs came from Katie Dainton, who had a two-run triple to score Perea and Henry. Dainton would score on a RBI single by Maddie Bosley.

Stevenson tied the score in the bottom of the fourth when Hamp singled to left scoring Bosley.

Alvernia would take the lead for good in the fifth, with three runs and would tack on another one in the seventh for the final 8-4 margin.

Bosley, Hamp and Jillian Haines each had two hits in the game.

Jenna Sadowski took the loss, striking out two in three innings of work. Haines started the game, allowing three earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Ky Vaughn pitched the last 2.1 innings, striking out one.

Stevenson will take on Lebanon Valley on Thursday.
