Reading, Pa.- Stevenson baseball completes the season sweep of Albright thanks to stellar pitching performances from aces Sam Downs and Matt Reich.
With 14-0 and 6-2 victories over the Albright Lions, the Mustangs improve to 16-13 overall and 10-8 in the MAC Commonwealth.
Game One
The Mustangs got started in the third inning bringing home five runs. With the bases loaded, Amani Jones hit a single into left field, scoring Alex Russo and Dylan Scott. Tommy Holcomb then singled to right, scoring Billy McAdam. Finally, Nick Tamberino doubled to left center to bring in Jones.
After a pitching change for the Lions, Stevenson brought home five more runs. After Scott scored on a McAdam single, Holcomb tripled to right driving in Jones and McAdam. Holcomb would score on the next play, shortly followed by Johnathan Brandt.
The final four Mustang runs came in the sixth inning. Young was hit by a pitch, scoring Holcomb. Trent Smoot reached on a fielder's choice to score Tamberino. Russo walked, driving home Brandt. McAdam rounded out the scoring by sending a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Smoot, and bringing the final score to 14-0.
Downs earned his fourth win on the season in shutout fashion, going six innings, and recording six strikeouts. Christian Pellegrino came in for the seventh, striking out one batter.
Game Two
Tamberino and Jones were sent home by Dylan Young to give the Mustangs an early 2-0 advantage in the third. The Lions answered with a run of their own In the bottom half of the inning.
Jones knocked in Russo sending a sacrifice fly out to left field in the fourth.
The Mustangs scored two more runs in the sixth inning. With Scott on third, McAdam grounded out to first, bringing in the run. Then after Jones reached on an error, Holcomb crushed a home run over the center field fence, his fourth homer on the season.
The Lions scored a final run in the seventh, but the Mustangs come out on top 6-2. Reich notched seven strikeouts, giving up a lone run in 6.0 innings of work.
