Men’s Lacrosse Falls Short to No. 3 Gettysburg

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (1-3) fell to No. 3 Gettysburg 12-14 in a close contest due to the Bullet's third quarter surge on attack.
 
The Mustangs came out hot and tallied the first two goals of the contest against the Bullets. Dillion Linhardt put the first goal away at 11:58 off a pass from Griffin Gast, and 18 seconds later Grant Zick put away a fast-break unassisted goal for the 2-0 lead. At 10:24, the Bullets tallied their first goal of the contest. Jack Scaliti put away his first goal of the contest at 8:57, followed by another Linhardt goal with an assist from Zick at 6:41. At 6:35, Justin Bordner put away his first collegiate goal to make it a 5-1 game. Gettysburg responded to with two more goals and trailed the Mustangs 5-3 going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Bullets blanked the Mustangs while netting two goals to tie the match 5-5 going into half time.
 
Gettysburg opened scoring in the third quarter with a man-up goal at 13:10. At 11:03, Ryan Quinn put away an unassisted goal from close to half-field after catching the Bullet's net minder out of the crease. Cam Leydig followed about half a minute later with a man-up goal off a pass from Ryan Coleman to notch a 7-6 lead for the Mustangs. The Bullets then netted two goals to gain an 8-7 lead, but Quinn again caught the keeper for Gettysburg out of the crease and netted an open net goal with an assist from Justin Scorese. In response, Gettysburg netted three more goals to take a 11-8 lead going into the fourth quarter.
 
The Mustangs took the field in the fourth quarter ready to fight back, as Jack Scaliti wasted no time, putting away an unassisted goal at 14:17. Andrew Searing followed at 10:29 with another unassisted goal to close the Bullets lead 11-10. Gettysburg then notched two more goals to take a 13-10 lead over Stevenson. Scaliti netted his third goal for a hat trick at 6:51, and Coleman put away another at 6:04 to make it a 13-12 contest. With 2:30 remaining, Gettysburg netted a final goal to finalize the 14-12 win over the Mustangs.
 
Matt Wilson was a defensive asset for the Mustangs, as the defender caused four turnovers and picked up five ground balls. On attack, Scaliti led the squad with a three-point match consisting of a hat trick, while four Mustangs notched a two-point game. Scorese stood between the pipes for Stevenson and made 11 stops, while scooping two ground balls and handing out an assist.
 
The Mustangs will prepare to head to No. 8 Lynchburg on Friday, Mar. 10. The contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
