LYNCHBURG, VA. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (1-4) fell 8-12 to the No. 9 Lynchburg Hornets on Friday evening.
The Hornets opened scoring on the evening with the first two goals at 7:05 and 6:19. The Mustangs followed shortly after with two unassisted goals from
Shane Ford at 4:10 and 3:17. Lynchburg then put another goal away with nine seconds to make it a 3-2 game going into the second quarter.
Lynchburg again started the quarter with another goal on the board to make it a 4-2 game. At 13:04,
Andrew Searing netted an unassisted goal to take the Hornets' lead down to one point. Lynchburg then responded with two more goals, but the Mustangs did not hesitate to respond. At 1:57 Ford notched his third unassisted goal during a man-up opportunity for his third hat trick of the season. Less than a minute later,
Mitchell Lachman netted a man-up goal off a ball from Ford to make it a 6-5 game in the Hornets' favor. Lynchburg then netted two more goals in the last 30 seconds of the quarter to take the 8-5 lead going into the half.
In the third quarter,
Jack Scaliti opened scoring with a goal at 9:41 to bring the Mustangs to six-points. Lynchburg then netted a goal at 15 seconds remaining to build their lead to 9-6.
In the fourth quarter, Lynchburg put away their tenth goal of the matchup at 12:22. Lachman replied with 7:18 remaining with an assist from
Justin Tepper. Although the Hornets responded with another goal at 3:48, Scaliti put away his second goal of the game at 2:28. Despite the Mustangs' efforts, Lynchburg put away one last goal at 1:06 to finalize their 12-8 win.
Ryan Quinn led the Mustangs on defense with seven ground balls, while causing two turnovers. Ford led the team on attack with a four-point game, while Lachman and Scaliti each tallied two goals.
Justin Scorese made nine saves on the evening.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 17 when they face Dickinson during the Mustang Classic. Faceoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
