Softball takes opener from Susquehanna in non-conference tilt

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Stevenson University softball team took the first game of a doubleheader against Susquehanna, taking a 7-4 win over the River Hawks in non-conference play on Thursday afternoon.

In game two, the Riverhawks (11-10) scored three times in the second to take a 3-1 win over the Mustangs (12-7).

The opener was a see-saw affair, as Stevenson took a 2-0 lead after the second inning as sophomore Rebecca Henry had a RBI double that scored Jillian Haines. Henry would later score on a RBI single from McKenzie Tobler.

Stevenson would increase the lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth as Maddie Bosley scored on a RBI double from Jordan Fangman.

Susquehanna would even the score in the fourth by plating three runs, before Stevenson took a 4-3 lead in the fifth as Rivers Edwards hit a RBI single that scored Marissa Heuer.

After Susquehanna knotted the score in the bottom of the six, the Mustangs played three runs in the top of the seventh for the final scoring margin. Bosley had a RBI single, with Fangman having a sacrifice fly and Megan Hamp netting a RBI single.

Bosley finished game one 4-for05, while Hamp and Henry getting two hits each.

Heuer got the win, going the distance to move to 7-3. She had eight strikeouts and allowed one walk.

In game two, Susquehanna struck early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second. Stevenson's lone run came in the third as Bosley singled to left center scoring Katie Dainton.

Dainton finished 2-for-3 in the contest, as the Mustangs collected six hits.

Jillian Haines got the loss, striking out one and walking one.

Stevenson will host Alvernia on Sunday, as the doubleheader was moved from Saturday due to impending weather.
