Softball swept by ninth-ranked Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – The Stevenson University softball team dropped a doubleheader to ninth-ranked Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday afternoon, falling in game one 9-1 in five innings, while dropping the nightcap to the Yellowjackets (16-4), 8-3.

In game one, Stevenson collected four hits with graduate student Jillian Haines hitting a home run in the top of the fifth for the lone RBI for the Mustangs. Haines had two hits in the game, with junior McKenzie Tobler getting the other hit.

Graduate student Marissa Heuer went the distance, striking out five and walking two.

In game two, Stevenson took the lead after the top of the second inning by scoring three runs. A RBI single by freshman Katie Dainton scored sophomore Maddie Buher for the first Mustang run. Tobler would then single to left that scored senior Kat Perea to the score at 2-all. Dainton would scored on a error for the third and final run for Stevenson.

The Yellowjackets tied the score in the third, then scored twice in the fourth and fifth.

Senior Jenna Sadowski took the loss, striking out one and walking one in four innings of work. Haines pitched the final two, striking out one.

Stevenson heads to Susquehanna on Thursday.
