GLASSBORO, N.J. – Stevenson women's lacrosse (2-7) scored early before falling to the Rowan University Profs (6-2) 17-7 Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore midfield
Isabelle VanEmburgh scored four goals for the Mustangs, adding five shots, all on goal, and four draw controls. Junior midfield
Kara Yarusso notched four total shots with three on goal and five draw controls. Junior attack
Bailey Krahl continued to be a force in assists, adding two, while senior goalie
Sophie Shucosky added six saves against 13 goals in about 54 minutes of play. Sophomore goalie
Regan Torbert added two saves on four goals.
FIRST QUARTER
The Mustangs pushed early offensively, as they got on the board just under three minutes into the first quarter. The Profs tied it up just under a minute later before adding another with 10:28 remaining. The Profs had five scoring opportunities while the Mustangs denied two on-target attempts in the opening period.
SECOND QUARTER
The second was a scoreless quarter for the Mustangs, but they continued to fight defensively, denying four attempts, and adding three saves for Torbert. The Mustangs saw two opportunities around the eight-minute mark, but were either denied or slightly off-target. The score going into the half was 12 for the Profs against the lone Mustang goal.
THIRD QUARTER
Following two defensive plays for the Mustangs as they denied two attempts, their second goal arrived with 8:13 remaining from VanEmburgh. The sophomore midfield continue to score, twice more before the quarter ended, one with just over two minutes remaining, and again with 41 seconds remaining. The score was then 14-4.
FOURTH QUARTER
In the final quarter, Yarusso netted a goal about three minutes into play. Just over a minute later, VanEmburgh scored her fourth and final goal of the afternoon, bringing the score to 14-6, but the Profs scored three more times before the game's end. Getting on the board once more, Yarusso added the seventh goal for the Mustangs with 17 seconds remaining, resulting in the final 17-7 decision.
