OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (2-6) honored the 1995 team during halftime, during the squad's tough battle against No. 4 Salisbury on Saturday evening. The 1995 men's lacrosse team was the very first men's lacrosse team and the very first official NCAA Division III program at Stevenson University. In 2014, the squad was inducted into the Dick Watts Hall of Fame as a historical team of distinction for Stevenson University's Athletic program. In the battle against No. 4 Salisbury, the Mustangs fell 6-15.
Salisbury opened scoring in the contest with three goals to begin the match up. At 3:21 remaining in the first quarter,
Cam Leydig put away an unassisted goal to make it a 1-3 game. In the second quarter, the Seagulls put away another four goals to take a six-point lead over Stevenson.
Mitchell Lachman then responded with a goal at 2:48 off a ball from
Ryan Coleman to make it a 2-7 game going into halftime.
The Mustangs opened scoring for the second half of the game, with an unassisted goal from Leydig at 10:48. The Seagulls notched their eighth goal at 5:22, but less than a minute later
Shane Ford put one away off a pass from Lachman to make it a 4-8 game. Salisbury then responded with two more goals to notch a 4-10 game going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Seagulls put away three more goals in the first five minutes, as
Cam Leydig netted his third unassisted goal of the game at 9:23. Salisbury put away one last goal at 7:17, as
Jack Scaliti put away an unassisted goal at 6:38. The Seagulls took the 15-6 victory.
Justin Scorese stood in goal for the Mustangs, making 15 saves.
Justin Bordner dominated the faceoff, winning 18 of 24, and picking up 14 ground balls.
Ryan Quinn led the defense with four caused turnovers and four grounds.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Wednesday evening as the team faces Kean University. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
