CHESTER, Pa. – Senior
Jordan Fangman knocked in seven RBIs on the afternoon as the Stevenson softball team (8-3, 2-0 MACC) defeated Widener (4-5, 0-2 MACC) in both games of a double header Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs defeated the Pride 5-1 in the first game and 9-6 in the second in the MAC Commonwealth openers for each team.
Game 1 – Stevenson 5, Widener 1; WP:
Marissa Heuer (5-2); LP: Caitlyn Katchur (2-3)
Jordan Fangman opened the scoring in the third inning with a grand slam to put the Mustangs up 4-0. The Pride plated their only run the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Caitlyn Katchur. Stevenson added one more run in the fifth when
Kat Perea scored from first on a double to left field from
Maddie Bosley.
In the pitcher's circle,
Marissa Heuer continued her stellar season, striking out nine batters in her seven-inning outing.
Jillian Haines went 2-3 at the plate while
Maddie Bosley and
Kat Perea each slapped doubles for their lone hits.
Jordan Fangman accounted for four runs with a grand slam in the game.
Game 2 – Stevenson 9, Widener 6; WP:
Ky Vaughn (1-0); LP: Sam McCarthy (3-5)
Marissa Heur put the Mustangs on the board first yet again with a solo homerun in the top of the second. The Pride roared back with a five-run third inning. A bases loaded single plated the first Widener run before a grand slam from Sam McCarthy gave the Pride a 5-1 lead.
Stevenson battled back, scoring runs in each of the last three innings. In the fifth inning, a bases loaded walk from
Maddie Bosley plated
Kat Perea.
Jordan Fangman then grounded into a fielder's choice to score
Elizabeth Russo from third. With runners on first and second,
Megan Hamp singled to score
Maddie Bosley from second, moving the score to 4-5.
The Mustangs did the bulk of their damage in the sixth, plating four runs in the inning. With two outs and runners on second and third, Mackenzie Tobler singled to send
Rebecca Henry across the plate and tie the game at five.
Maddie Bosley gave Stevenson a 6-5 lead with an RBI single to score
Maddie Buher. The two-out rally continued when
Jordan Fangman singled to score both Bosley and Tobler for an 8-5 Mustang lead.
In the seventh,
Marissa Heuer slapped her second homerun of the day to round out the scoring for Stevenson with a 9-5 advantage. Meanwhile, in the pitcher's circle,
Ky Vaughn retired eseven straight batters since taking over in the bottom of the fourth. Widener finally broke through with three consecutive hits, the last being a single to drive in a run and move he score to 9-6. Heuer relieved Vaughn and retired the final three batters to seal the victory and secure her second save of the season.
Multiple Mustangs recorded multiple RBIs with
Jordan Fangman leading the way with three. Mackenzie Tobler,
Maddie Bosley and
Marissa Heuer each added two RBIs with Heuers coming on solo homeruns. Tobler, Bosley and
Megan Hamp each recorded stolen bases in the game.
Ky Vaughn recorded her first-career victory in 2.1 innings of relief with three strikeouts and zero walks.
