Mustangs Split in Final Day at Fast Pitch Dreams Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Stevenson softball team (6-3) completed its trip to the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic with a 7-9 loss to Albertus Magnus (3-2) and a 4-3 victory over Scranton (4-5) Wednesday afternoon.
 
Game 1 – Stevenson 7, Albertus Magnus 9; WP: B. Saldivar (1-0); LP: J. Sadowski (0-2)
 
Stevenson jumped on the board early with an RBI double from Megan Hamp to score McKenzie Tobler in the top of the first. The Falcons erased the lead in the second with an RBI from Breanna Saldivar.
 
Stevenson regained the lead in the fourth when Maddie Bosley and Jordan Fangman scored on Jillian Haines' two-RBI double, claiming a 3-1 lead. The lead was short lived as Albertus Magnus scored five runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 3-6 lead.
 
The Falcons extended their lead to 3-9 with a three-run sixth by taking advantage of Stevenson errors. The Mustangs mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh. Maddie Bosley and McKenzie Tobler crossed the plate on an error before Megan Hamp slapped a double to score Jordan Fangman. Hamp came around to score on an RBI from Rebecca Henry, but the rally ended on a fly ball to center, sealing the 7-9 victory for Albertus Magnus.
 
Jillian Haines went 4-5 at the dish with three RBIs to lead the Mustangs who tallied 15 hits. Jordan Fangman added two RBIs while Megan Hamp and Rebecca Henry added one each.
 
Game 2 – Stevenson 4, Scranton 3; WP: M. Heuer (3-2); LP: C. Noble (1-2)
 
Stevenson struck fist in the second with a triple from Kat Perea to score Marissa Heuer from first. Perea crossed the plate on an RBI single from Elizabeth Russo. Marissa Heuer retired the side in order in the bottom of the second and kept the third inning scoreless despite a runner reaching second.
 
Scranton broke onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back RBI singles from Lauren Crawley and Emmie Feltenberger to tie the game at two runs apiece.
 
The Mustangs regained the lead with runs in the sixth and seventh. Abbygail Hurst scored on an RBI double from Rivers Edwards in the sixth while Maddie Bosley scored on a single from Marissa Heuer in the seventh. Scranton narrowed the lead to 4-3 with a single from Jenna Davida. Heuer sealed the win for the Mustangs by striking out the last batter of the game.
 
Marissa Heuer earned her third win of the season, pitching all seven innings and striking out five. Heuer also led the Mustangs at the plate with a 3-4 day while Maddie Bosley, Jillian Haines, Rivers Edwards and Kat Perea each added multi-hit performances. Heuer, Edwards, Perea and Elizabeth Russo all tallied RBIs in the victory.
What's Next
Stevenson kicks off the MAC Commonwealth portion of the schedule with a double header at Widener on Saturday, March 18. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
