Men’s Volleyball Sweeps PSU-Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Stevenson men's volleyball team (3-5, 0-0 MAC) defeated Penn State-Altoona (0-6, 0-1 AMCC) in straight sets Friday night at Adler Arena. Set scores were 25-17, 25-19, and 25-14.
 
In the opening set, Stevenson held the Nittany Lions to a .000 hit percentage while hitting .250 themselves. Altoona picked up an early 3-5 lead but the Mustangs riffled off a 9-2 run to leverage a 12-7 lead. Ryan Thenell sent home two kills in the run while Elliot De La Torre added an ace and Aidan O'Brien and Brian Farrell paired up for a block. The Mustangs used a 7-2 run which included a block from Thenell and De La Torre and capped by a kill from Jack Braverman. The Lions chipped away at the Stevenson lead, but the Mustangs took the opening set 25-17.
 
The Mustangs led the second set, wire-to-wire while hitting .423 percent. Stevenson used two four-point runs to take a 9-4 lead, capped by kill from Jack Braverman. The Lions used a 5-2 run to close the gap to 14-11 before the sides traded the next 14 points to the 21-18 mark. The Mustangs closed out the frame on a 4-1 run with Aidan O'Brien sending home the final kill for a 25-19 victory.
 
In the third set, Stevenson opened a 13-8 lead with a block from Ryan Thenell. The Lions chipped away with a 4-1 run to narrow the gap to 14-12. The Mustangs embarked on a 10-1 run to take a 24-13 lead which included three consecutive aces from Ryan Thenell. The Mustangs earned the final point on a service error, taking the frame 25-14.

  • Stevenson returns to action Saturday February 4 to face Geneva at 3pm and Juniata at 7pm during the Juniata Tournament in Huntingdon, Pa.
