REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Men's Hockey hosted United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) foe King's College this afternoon at the Reisterstown Sportsplex. A three-goal first period was a strong indicator for how the game would end as the Mustangs cruised to a 7-0 victory.
The Mustangs came out hot, accumulating 16 first-period shots. Senior Frank Vitucci would get Stevenson going with a goal just eight minutes into the game, with assists going to classmate Eric Olson and junior Aidan Graham.Â
Graham would tally point number two of the night on the Mustangs' next goal, scored exactly three minutes later by sophomore Blake Benson on the power-play. Senior Zach Bannister picked up his first of two points in the effort.
Junior Liam McCanney closed the period out with his first goal of the night, being helped by Olson yet again.
After a scoreless second period, the Mustangs capitalized on the Monarchs' goaltending change in the third. Senior Evan Beers picked up his third goal and fifth point of the season via Bannister and McCanney less than nine minutes into the period.
McCanney did not even have time to make a line change before he was back on the board with his second goal of the night a mere 22 seconds after Beers. Olson notched his third assist of the game and sophomore Jack Karlsson tallied his fourth of the season.
Sophomore John Musella would ink his name on the score sheet for his fourth goal of the year with assists going to first year Matt Yeager and senior Brendan Rylott. Yeager's assist is a career-first while Rylott's accounts for his first of the season.
Junior Jake Roberts would find the back of the net for the Mustangs one more time before the buzzer sounded, with McCanney grabbing his fourth point of the night and Vitucci adding his second.
After tonight's contest, McCanney leads the team in goals with eight and points with 12 as well as a +13 rating. He is followed by Benson, whose assist this evening gives him ten points. Bannister follows with nine, as do Musella with seven and both Vitucci and Olson with six apiece.
In net, junior Ty Outen recorded a career- and program-first back-to-back shutout, making 28 saves in the cage. The feat is his third of the season and the win is his seventh.
Tonight's victory puts the Mustangs at 8-3-1 overall, 6-2-1 in UCHC play, and 2-1 in the MAC heading into the 20-day break. Stevenson heads to Oswego, New York on December 30th to face off against SUNY Cortland in the opening round of the Oswego State Tournament.
