JENKINSTOWN, Pa. – The Stevenson women's soccer team notched a huge 6-0 victory over the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mustangs opened the first half with a four-goal scoring run, starting in the 15
th minute as
Kamille Purcell broke through the Nittany Lions defense with a feed from
Valeria Valencia Quiroz and scored.
Karly Sheahan followed with the second goal of the contest off a cross from Purcell in the 21
st minute. Six minutes later,
Shania Hyatt netted a third goal for the Mustangs off a pass from
Madison Rytina. In the 35
th minute,
Samantha Wilson took advantage of a free kick outside the 18 to make it a 4-0 contest going into halftime.
In the second half,
Ericka Kitzinger put up a goal in the 79
th minute off a rebound following a shot from Rytina.
Marin McDonald then put away the sixth and final goal of the match up off a pass from Kitzinger. Despite efforts from the Nittany Lions, the Mustangs walked with a huge 6-0 victory.
Stevenson outshot the Nittany Lions 28-2, 15-1 on net. Kitzinger and Purcell each registered a three-point contest with a goal and an assist each. Hyatt, Mcdonald, Sheahan, and Wilson each posted a two-point game with a goal apiece, as Rytina posted two points with two assists. Five Mustangs recorded two shots on goal in the contest.
Courtney Wysokowski made one save to hold Penn State Abington scoreless.
The Mustangs will prepare to return to MAC Commonwealth play as the team travels to York, Pa. on Saturday to face the York College of Pennsylvania Spartans. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
