CANTON, N.Y. - Stevenson Men's Hockey took on the Canton Kangaroos this afternoon to complete their season-opening non-conference series. After last night's 5-0 win, the Mustangs brought home the sweep after today's 2-1 victory.
Sophomore John Musella, coming off of two assists in game one, set the tone right away in the second period. He scored 66 seconds into the period in an unassisted effort just ten seconds after the Mustangs executed a successful penalty kill.
Later in the period, junior Malcolm Palmer and sophomore Aidan McDowell would continue their point streaks as Musella found the back of the net for the second time, this time on the power-play.
After the Canton series, Musella leads the Mustangs with four points and a +3 rating. Palmer and McDowell are tied for the lead in assists with three apiece, and tied for second in points behind Musella.
In the circle, senior Eric Olson won a game-high ten draws on the Mustangs' behalf.
Junior Ty Outen collected his second win of the season with another 30 saves added to his stat sheet. He totals 64 saves on the season with a .985 save percentage.
The Mustangs carry their 2-0 record into next weekend's road trip to New York where they will face defending UCHC champion Utica. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM on Friday, November 3rd and 3 PM on Saturday, November 4th.
