DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Stevenson gave 25
th-ranked Delaware Valley all they could handle as the Aggies (7-1, 7-0 MAC) scored a touchdown with 46 seconds left, then held off a last gasp by the Mustangs (6-2, 5-2 MAC), as Stevenson fell 21-14 on Saturday afternoon.
Stevenson had tied the score with 66 seconds left as
Nyaire Wilson threw a 7-yard TD pass to
Kevin Smitson completing a 18-play, 96-yard scoring drive.
After the kickoff, Aggie quarterback Louie Barrios IV threw a 71-yard scoring pass to Luan Avdijaj to retake the lead. It was the second time the two connected, as they hooked up for a 68-yard scoring pass just 47 seconds into the contest.
Still, Stevenson stormed back and went all the way to the Aggie ten yard line and had two cracks at the end zone but could not convert.
Wilson finished the day 22-of-40 for 235 yards and a score, while also rushing for an 10-yard score in the second quarter.
Louis Clouser rushed for 39 yards on 15 attempts, with
Pat Gorman catching a game-high eight passes for 135 yards.
Defensively,
Justin Rutkowski had a team-best seven tackles and a fumble recovery with
Clarence Travis making six stops.
Marvin Manassa had an interception.
After giving up the early score, Stevenson got on the board on Wilson's ten-yard run, set up by a short field as the Aggies botched a punt and gave the Mustangs the ball at the Aggies 14-yard line with 11:52 left in the quarter.
Delaware Valley took a 14-7 lead with 6:46 left until halftime as Nick Arcaroli threw a three-yard scoring pass to Barrios IV. The Aggies looked to add to their lead late in the fourth, but, a 30-yard field goal was blocked by
Charles Greer to end the half.
Delaware Valley again would try to score in the third quarter, but Manassa intercepted the ball in the end zone with 7:44 left.
With 9:17 left in the fourth quarter, Stevenson mounted its long drive and converted four third downs and one fourth down, capped by the 7-yard scoring pass from Wilson to Smitson.
Stevenson will finish up the final two regular season games at home, starting with King's at noon on Saturday.
