Mustang Men’s Hockey notches 5-0 win at Canton to start season

CANTON, N.Y. - Stevenson Men's Hockey opened up official non-conference play tonight with a 5-0 win over SUNY Canton on the road.

First-year Rhett Evjen notched his first collegiate goal just nine minutes into the first period, capitalizing on feeds from classmate Jack Meloff and senior Zach Bannister. Meloff's assist accounts for his first collegiate point while Bannister's became his first point as a Mustang.

Junior Graeme McCrory started a three-goal rally in the second period, notching his sixth career goal courtesy of senior Eric Olson for his 19th career assist.

Following McCrory was classmate Liam McCanney, who found the back of the net thanks to a set up by sophomores Aidan McDowell and John Musella. McCanney's goal puts him at 30 in his career and elevates his point total to 58.

McDowell was back just four minutes later on the power-play for his second assist of the night, this time to Rhett Evjen for his second career goal. Junior Malcolm Palmer earned an assist in the effort as well. McDowell stands at 16 overall points, nine of which are assists.

Bannister would collect his second point of the night on the power-play in the third for his first goal as a Mustang, while Musella and Palmer both notched their second assists of the season.

Evjen, Bannister, McDowell, Musella, and Palmer are all tied for the team-leading two points after tonight's contest, and the team combined for a +15 rating.

In goal, junior Ty Outen made his NCAA debut in impressive fashion, stopping all 34 shots fired his way for the shutout win. Outen made 13 and 15 saves in the first and second periods, respectively.

The Mustangs remain in Canton overnight ahead of tomorrow's 4 PM series finale at the Roos House Ice Arena.
