Men's Soccer falls short of upsetting top-ranked Messiah, 2-1

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Homestanding Stevenson gave top-ranked Messiah all it could handle – and them some – before the Falcons (16-0-1, 6-0 MAC Commonwealth) scored two goals in the final 5:03 handing the Mustangs a 2-1 loss.

Stevenson (3-9-5, 2-3-1 MAC Commonwealth) led starting in the 24th minute as Patrick Caulden scored off a Gianfranco Vitella assist in front of the goal.

From there, starting goalkeeper Nolen Olson-Warwick kept the Falcons at bay, making six saves in the first half before finishing the night with 12. The Falcons held a 25-7 edge in shots and a 11-2 advantage in corners. Still, the Mustang defensive unit kept the Falcons scoreless until Ben Lefever scored at 84:47 on an assist by Patrick Lee.

Lee would assist on the game-winning goal, with 3:05 left, as Matt McDonald scored his tenth of the season.

Stevenson hosts Hood on Saturday on Senior Day.
