OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson University Field Hockey hosted York College of Pennsylvania this afternoon at Owings Mills East. The Spartans, currently ranked eighth in the country, would ultimately win 2-1 after a hard-fought game.
York opened the scoring in the final seconds of the first quarter when Hannah Huffman capitalized on a scramble in front of the net after a penalty corner.
The first half would expire with York ahead, but just three minutes into the second half, senior Emma Gladstein netted her 14th goal of the season on a penalty stroke.Â
York has only allowed goals against in six of their 12 contests prior to today.
The Mustangs and Spartans were neck and neck until the fourth quarter, when an unfortunate deflection after a penalty corner would give York the lead for the second and final time.
In net, first-year Jordan Vradenburgh held strong for two saves across thirty minutes of play before senior Eve Vickery continued the trend in the second half, recording three saves.
The Mustangs are back in MAC action on Wednesday, October 18th at Widener University. They return home next Saturday, October 21st for a noon matchup against Eastern University. The team will recognize their seniors as well as their alumni in celebration of homecoming weekend.
