Mustangs Finish Weekend Sweep of King’s with 4-1 Victory

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Sophomore Liam McCanney added three points on a goal and two assists as the Stevenson men's ice hockey team (7-8, 3-5 UCHC/4-0 MAC) defeated King's (Pa.) (2-8-1, 2-6-1/1-3-1 MAC) by a score of 4-1 to remain perfect in MAC play Saturday night at Revolution Ice Centre.

Alex Rivet opened the scoring in the first period finding the back of the net at 5:37, assisted by Liam McCanney. McCanney increased the Stevenson lead to 2-0 with a goal just three minutes later at 8:04. Anthony Starzi and Austin Master added assists to the goal. King's cut the Stevenson lead in half with an unassisted goal at 13:23 from Rhett Padgett.

The second period did not see a goal as Ryan Kenny stopped all five shots he faced for Stevenson while Tyler Sager stopped 15 shots faced for the Monarchs.

The Mustangs returned to the third period hungry for goals and found one off the stick of Eric Olsen at the 3:52 mark of the final frame. Anthony Starzi and Malcom Palmer added assistes on the goal. The Mustangs added the final tally of the evening at 14:42 when Austin Master deposited a power play goal, assisted by Aidan McDowell and Liam McCanney.

Stevenson returns to MAC and UCHC action with a home-and-home series with Lebanon Valley next weekend. The pair will first meet at Lebanon Valley on January 13 before finally returning to Reisterstown Sportsplex on January 14. Both games are slated to start at 7pm.
