HERSHEY, Pa. – Stevenson senior
Marko Sturma tallied 29 saves to record his second career win as the Stevenson men's ice hockey team (8-8, 5-4 UCHC, 5-0 MAC) defeated Lebanon Valley (2-10-2, 1-7-1 UCHC, 0-2-1 MAC) by a score of 5-2.
Stevenson placed 11 shots on goal to just six for Lebanon Valley in the opening period, with
Marko Sturma turning aside all of the Dutchmen shots. The Mustangs jumped on the board first with a late power play goal from
Evan Beers at 19:37, assisted by
Aidan McDowell and
Frank Vitucci.
In the second period, the Mustangs advanced their lead to two with a goal from
Seth Bergeron just two minutes into the frame.
Evan Beers and
Kyle Lightfoot added assists to the goal. The Dutchmen chipped away at the Mustang lead with an unassisted goal from Harolds Jirgens at 13:51.
Aidan Graham added a second power play goal for Stevenson as time expired in the period to put the Mustangs up by two at 3-1. Sturma finished the period with 12 saves to secure the Stevenson lead after two periods.
The Mustangs carried their momentum to the third period, adding a goal to extend their lead to 4-1 when
Liam McCanney added a goal at 3:51 assisted by
John Musella. Lebanon Valley cut the Stevenson lead in half with a power play goal at 7:36 from Blake Tosto with assists from Jordan Stear and Darion Benchich. With a power play opportunity late in the game Lebanon Valley emptied the net for a two-man advantage. The Mustangs and Sturma thwarted all of the Dutchmen shots in the chance.
Anthony Starzi skated a puck to the offensive zone and scored the empty net goal to put Stevenson up 5-2.
Evan Beers and Eric Olsen added assists on the goal.
