HERSHEY, Pa. – The Stevenson women's hockey team (7-10, 6-8 UCHC, 3-4 MAC) fell 2-1 to Lebanon Valley (8-10, 5-8 UCHC, 3-2 MAC) due to a last-minute surge in the third period on Friday evening.
The Mustangs came out with their foot on the gas, as the squad outshot LVC 14-3 in the first period. At 9:37,
Megan Swick put away a goal, with assists from
Karly Aguirre and
Gracie Payne, to take the 1-0 lead going into the second period.
In the second period, the Dutchmen came out to put away a goal at 11:25 to tie the contest. For the remainder of the second it was a back-and-forth duel for the teams, as they fought into a tied third period.
Both teams battled through the third period, but it was LVC who put the game winning goal away at 17:31. The Mustangs put forth a hard-fought last-minute effort with a six on four in the last minute of play, but it was not enough to put away the goal needed to go into overtime.
The Mustangs will be back in action at Reisterstown Sportsplex on Saturday, January 28 as they face Lebanon Valley in the second game of the weekend series. Puck drop is set for 4:30 p.m.
