Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Stevenson men's volleyball team (2-3 overall) battled with Marymount (Va.) (3-2 overall) through 30 tie scores as the Mustangs dropped a four-set match 3-1 Tuesday night at Converse Family Fieldhouse.
The teams battled back and forth to a nine-all tie before the Saints used a three-point run to open a 9-12 lead and never surrendered the advantage. The Mustangs squared the set a t 14 points a-piece on a three-point run capped by a
Jack Braverman kill followed by an ace from
Ryan Thenell. The Saints used a 9-4 run to leverage a 19-23 lead, but the Mustangs were unable to find a late surge and dropped the opening set 20-25.
The second set was tightly contested as well with the teams trading runs to an 8-8. Stevenson used a three-point run with back-to-back aces from
Jack Braverman to open a 11-8 lead and never relinquished the advantage. Marymount narrowed the gap to 11-10 but a five-point Stevenson run gave the Mustangs a comfortable 16-10 lead midway through the frame.
Ryan Thenell put down a kill before
Brian Farrell sent home an ace to move the Stevenson advantage to 19-12. The Saints surged to narrow the gap to 24-21 but Farrell sent home the final kill to give Stevenson the 25-21 victory and even the match.
Marymount responded in the third set hauling to a 6-11 lead and never allowing the Mustangs to string more than two points together. Stevenson chipped away with kills from
Aidan O'Brien and
Ryan Thenell but the Saints lead climbed to 24-15. Marymount put down the final kill to take the third set 15-15.
The fourth set was tightly contested throughout. Marymount leveraged an early 4-7 lead before a three-point Stevenson run with kills from
Brian Farrell and
Jack Braverman knotted the frame at seven. The sides traded points to a 10-10 tie before the Saints regained their lead at 12-16. The Mustangs used a four-point run which included a block from
Aidan O'Brien and kills from Braverman and Farrell for a 16-all tie. The teams battle through three tie scores before the Mustangs could overtake the lead at 21-20. A
Ryan Thenell kill moved the advantage to 23-22 but the Saints closed the frame with a kill and back-to-back blocks to take the final set 23-25.
Numbers and Notes
- Ryan Thenell led the Mustangs with 11 kills, his third match this season with double-digit kills.
- Five Mustangs registered five or more digs and tied the Saints with 34 digs.
