Owings Mills, Md. (April 9) — The No. 3 Stevenson men's volleyball team saw their season come to a close in the MAC Semifinals against No. 2 Messiah on Thursday evening, falling in straight sets to No. 2 Messiah (16–25, 22–25, 20–25).
Set 1:
Messiah opened the match with early momentum, jumping out to a 4–2 lead behind a pair of kills. Stevenson responded with contributions from
Corwin Trouteaud and
Adam DeRubertis to keep the set within reach, trimming the deficit to 9–9 midway through. A block by Trouteaud and
Tanner Laukhuff highlighted a brief Mustang surge, but Messiah answered with a decisive run fueled by service pressure and capitalized errors. Late kills from
Adam Sawyers and
Kevin Kouchoukos helped Stevenson push forward, but Messiah closed the set, 25–16.
Set 2:
The Mustangs showed their best fight in the second set, trading points early and finding offensive balance. DeRubertis and Sawyers each delivered key kills, while
Michael Dixon added an impact swing to keep Stevenson within striking distance. A late push saw the Mustangs cut the deficit to 24–20 after a Kouchoukos finish, but Messiah held on to take the set, 25–22, despite Stevenson's improved attacking efficiency and defensive effort.
Set 3:
Stevenson carried momentum into the third, with early points from Kouchoukos and a service ace by Laukhuff helping the Mustangs take a brief lead. Dixon became a focal point offensively, delivering multiple kills to keep the set tight, while Sawyers and Laukhuff added timely finishes. The Mustangs battled to a 20–20 contest late in the frame, but Messiah capitalized down the stretch with a closing run to secure the set, 25–20, and the match.
With the semifinal appearance, Stevenson caps off a strong season marked by growth and competitive conference play, finishing 16–11 overall and 6–3 in the MAC.
