REISTERSTOWN, Md. – Sophomore
Olivia DeGuire tallied 20 saves and secured the first shutout of the of the season as the Stevenson women's ice hockey team (7-9, 6-7 UCHC, 3-3 MAC) defeated King's (0-16-1, 0-14-1 UCHC, 0-6-1 MAC) by a score of 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex.
The lone goal of the game was scored on just the second shot of the game at 1:19 in the first period by
Meghan Croyle with assists from
Karly Aguirre and Jayne Debejian. The teams locked in defensively for the remainder of the period. Stevenson ripped another 8 shots in the frame while King's mustered just four.
The Mustangs outshot the Monarchs in the second period 10-6 with two shots coming on the lone power play opportunity for the home team but were unable to convert another goal. Stevenson successfully defended the lone penalty kill chance in the period, allowing only one shot on goal.
In the third period,
Olivia DeGuire tallied 10 saves to secure the shutout, with four of the saves coming on a single power play opportunity for the Monarchs.
The Mustangs will return to action on Friday, January 27 when they tracvel to Annville, Pa. to face Lebanon Valley at 7pm.
