REISTERSTOWN, Md. -- First Year
Meghan Croyle registered her first-career multi-goal game as the Stevenson women's ice hockey team defeated King's (Pa.) 5-3 Friday afternoon at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
With the victory the Mustangs improve to 6-9 overall, 4-7 in the UCHC and 2-3 in MAC play while King's drops to 0-15-1 overall, 0-13-1 in the UCHC and 0-5-1 in the MAC.
The first period saw 13 shots of Stevenson sticks while King's mustered just four. The Monarchs opened the scoring with a goal from Emma Clark at 8:19 in the first assisted by Aspen Wallis.
Meghan Croyle tied the game moments later with a goal at 8:59 with assists from Tea Ferrera and
Gracie Payne.
Stevenson gained a 2-1 lead when
Karly Aguirre found the back of the net at 16:21 assisted by
Cassie Campbell. King's took advantage of a Mustang mistake when the net was emptied anticipating a penalty. However Amanda Sokol picked up a loose puck and sent it towards the empty net, tying the game at two goals at 18:53.
Stevenson surged in the second period, adding three goals in the frame, all on the power play. Tea Ferrera deposited the first goal of the period at 8:49 with assists from Franki Capello and
Gracie Payne. Croyle added the second power play goal of the period and her second of the night at 11:59 with an assist from
Emily Brightbill for a 4-2 lead.
King's narrowed the gap to 4-3 just a minute later at 12:52 when Brighton Wallin netted a goal assisted by Olivia McTavish. Stevenson netted the final goal of the frame at 16:51 on the power play when
Cassie Campbell sent a puck past the King's goaltender.
Ashlyn Bray and
Hannah Labbe added assists on the goal.
The third period went scoreless despite as the Mustangs tallied eight shots on goal to just one for the Monarchs.
