READING, Pa. – The Stevenson women's ice hockey team fell to Alvernia 0-3 in a UCHC and MAC contest on the road Saturday afternoon at Body Zone. With the loss, the Mustangs drop to 5-9 overall and 3-7 in the UCHC and 1-3 in MAC play while Alvernia improves to 7-5-3 overall and 6-3-1 in the UCHC and 4-0 in MAC play.
The first period was tightly contested with the Golden Wolves edging out the Mustangs in shots 11-12. Both goaltenders stopped each shot for the period to end in a scoreless tie after 20 minutes of play.
Alvernia opened the scoring in the second period with a goal from Gillian Evans at 3:12, assisted by Amber Steinhilpert and Carolyn Burton. The Golden Wolves improved their lead to 0-2 with a power play goal at 17:58 of the second period from Kathryn Palmer. Julia Franklin and Sydney Bradley added assists on the goal. Maggie Seinhert added 11 saves in the period.
Julia Franklin added the final goal for Alvernia at the 17:28 mark of the third period, assisted by Olivia Gilida. Maggie Seinhert added another 11 saves in the period, bringing her game total to 31.
The Mustangs return to action on January 20 to host King's (Pa.) in MAC and UCHC play. Puck drop is set for 3pm at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
