Mustangs Drop Road Contest at Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Stevenson women's ice hockey team (5-8, 3-6 UCHC, 1-2 MAC) fell 1-4 to Alvernia (6-5-3, 5-3-1 UCHC, 3-0 MAC) in a UCHC and MAC contest Friday night at Body Zone.

The Golden Wolves took advantage of a power play to score the game's first goal. Ainsley King blocked an initial shot from Olivia Gilida before Gilida sent the rebound home at the 17:09 mark, assisted by Amber Steinhilpert.

The Mustangs knotted the game at one with just 56 seconds remaining in the opening period. Maggie Dean ripped a shot that was blocked by the Alvernia defense before Megan Croyle sent the puck home at 19:05. Karly Aguirre and Dean earned assists on the goal.

The Golden Wolves regained the lead with their second power play goal of the afternoon. Just 9 seconds into the extra skater opportunity, Gilida put Alvernia ahead at 5:31, assisted by Sydney Bradley and Julia Franklin. Stevenson earned a power play but surrendered a short-handed goal to Alex Robertson at 9:11. The Mustangs recorded four shots in the remainder of the period, but all were swept away by the Alvernia net-minder.

Alvernia added its final tally just 52 seconds into the third period with an unassisted goal from Julia Franklin. Stevenson took 13 shots in the period but were unable to narrow the Golden Wolves lead.

Alvernia and Stevenson meet again on Saturday January 14 for a 1pm puck drop.
