OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Making its home debut for the 2022 season, the Stevenson men's soccer team dropped a tough-luck 1-0 decision to Immaculata on Wednesday evening.
The Mighty Macs (2-1) found the game's lone tally in the 80th minute on a bouncing corner kick that deflected just inside the right post. Stevenson (0-1-2) held an 18-6 edge in shots on the evening, but struggled to place quality looks on goal throughout the night.
Kristian Slaby secured five saves for the Mustangs, while Tiago Silva led the offensive charge with three shots on goal. Meanwhile, Josh Phillips was credited with the lone tally of the night for the Macs. Immaculata played three different goalkeepers with Ryan Straub earning the victory with one save over the final 33:08.
The Mustangs recorded a flurry of chances, including looks for Silva in the 8th and 9th minutes. Slaby notched his first save of the evening on a low shot from Phillips in the 21st minute. Continuing to press forward, Sebastian Boos ripped a pair of chances over the first 17 minutes of the opening half, while Bryant Seivers lifted a shot high in the 44th minute.
The teams continued trading chances at the onset of the second half with the Mighty Macs forcing Slaby into consecutive saves in the 65th minute. Bryce Behe stepped into a shot in the 72nd minute that Straub denied before the Mustangs were whistled for an offside in the 79th minute.
Phillips sent a looping corner kick into traffic that squeaked into the net for the lone tally of the night. Stevenson went to its bench as Immaculata dropped into a defensive formation over the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Overall, the Mustangs had 10 different players record a shot as head coach Graeme Millar worked in a large chunk of the lineup.
