OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's volleyball team (15-1, 3-0 MAC) moved its win streak to seven with a straight set victory over Elizabethtown (12-1, 0-0 Landmark) Thursday evening at Owings Mills gymnasium. Six Mustangs recorded five or more kills in the match with set scores of 25-20, 25-11, 25-19.
Stevenson senior
Sarah Straub led the first set with three blocks while
Shannon Baily put down four kills for the Mustangs. Stevenson set the ace early, jumping to an 14-8 advantage with back-to-back aces from
Makala Thompson. The Blue Jays narrowed the lead to 19-17 by taking advantage of a Stevenson ball handling error but the Mustangs closed the frame on a 6-3 run. Stevenson won the first set 25-20 with a kill from
Shannon Baily.
Stevenson carried its momentum into the second set, outhitting its opponent .433 to .077. The Mustangs opened a 14-2 advantage before the Blue Jays could slow the Stevenson run. The Mustangs leveraged an 19-9 lead on a block assist from
Sarah Straub and
Shannon Baily, sparking a five-point run.
Giulia Viglietta and
Rileigh Kimball put down the final two kills for the Mustangs to win the set 25-11.
Stevenson and Elizabethtown battled through three tie scores and two lead changes in the third set. The Blue Jays took an early 2-7 advantage in the frame before the Mustangs roared back with a 12-1 run to leverage a 14-8 lead. The Blue Jays chipped away at the Mustang lead with a 5-1 run to climb within two of the Stevenson lead at the 19-17 mark. However, Stevenson riffled off a 6-2 run to close out the set and take the final stanza 25-19.

The Mustangs will travel to Gettysburg for a tri-match on Saturday October 1, squaring off with Swarthmore at 2:30pm before facing Gettysburg at 5pm.
