Owings Mills M.d. - The Stevenson women's soccer team earned their first tally in the win column Wednesday evening, winning 2-0 over Penn State Abington.
After a back and forth first half,
Kylie DonBullian notched the first goal of the game, with a goal by
Michelle Mesquita at 87:02 to overcome the Lady Lions.
The first half started with the Mustangs and Lady Lions trading fouls and shots which both goalies,
Courtney Wysokowski and Rachel Wilfrid respectively handled easily. Play then slowed down as both sides had trouble maintaining possession, until Stevenson senior
Samantha Wilson turned a quick shot which hits the post and gave the Mustang offense life. First year Mustang forward
Kamille Purcell finished the first half with a golden opportunity, but watched the ball sail over the net.
The Mustangs controlled play for most of the second half registering 11 shots to Penn State's one. After coming off the Stevenson bench, sophomore defense
Kylie DonBullian netted her first goal of the season to give the Mustangs the lead at the 81
st minute. Purcell assisted on the goal, her third assist of the season. Shortly after, in the 87
th minute, Michelle Mesquite scored the Mustangs insurance marker and her first goal of the season on a free kick, making it 2-0. The Lady Lions pressured, but the Mustangs defense held on to secure Stevenson their first win of the season.
The Mustangs improve to 1-7-1 and the Lady Lions fell to 3-6-1. Stevenson is next in action Saturday, Oct. 1 with kickoff at 1 p.m. when they take on Eastern University for Senior Day at Owings Mills East. Penn State Abington returns home to play Wells College on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
