Mustangs Offense Struggles in 3-0 Loss to FDU-Florham

Owings Mills, Md. - The Stevenson University women's soccer team (0-7-1) could not find the back of the net as they lost 3-0 to the undefeated FDU-Florham Devils (10-0-0). 
 
FDU-Florham goal-scorers Ashley Dietrich, Mia Lopez, and Francesca Escudero were able to beat Mustangs goalkeeper Courtney Wysokowski, who made six saves. 
 
The first half opened with both teams attacking, despite offsides calls. Stevenson's first-year forward Caitlin Bridgers had the first shot of the game, saved by Erica Blackburn. The Devils' Dietrich score their first of the game, her fifth of the season, at 12:12. The Devils kept the pressure on and netted their second of the game at 21:46, this time off the foot of Lopez, her 12th. In the remainder of the half, the team traded fouls before a yellow card was handed to FDU-Florham's Carly Drumm.
 
The second half started by the Mustangs' junior forward Michelle Mesquite and junior defense Taylor Reider both sending header shots towards the net. A foul was called on Mesquita at 69:22 and it led to the Devils third goal, this one by Escudero, her third of the of the season. The Mustangs managed one more shot in the game that sailed wide off the foot of Mesquita.
 
The Mustangs falls to 0-7-1 as FDU-Florham improves to 10-0-0. Stevenson plays Penn State Abington at Owings Mills East on Wednesday, Sept. 28, with kickoff scheduled for 4p.m. The Devils will travel to Drew University on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
