Mustangs Push to Earn First Victory on Senior Day

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Mustangs downed Marymount University with their first victory on the season on senior day on their new home at Owings Mills East.

In the first half, the Mustangs started off hot on an attempt from senior forward Tiago Silva in the fourth minute, but ultimately were unable to get a shot past the Saints' Nicolas Varona. Shortly after, the Mustangs earned themselves a corner kick, resulting in their first goal off the foot of sophomore defense Bryant Seivers with help from junior midfield Saul Martinez. Silva made another attempt in the seventh minute, missing just to the right. Senior defense Iliass Zouita footed a shot in the 25th minute, missing just to the upper left of the net. With an early game tally on the board, the Saints' offense pushed with an off-target attempt in the 31st minute from Daniel Yi. The first half continued back and forth following an attempt from Marymount in the 40th minute.

The second half brought new energy to the Mustangs' offense, with a pair of shots made between the 46th and 48th minute. Silva and Zouita were not successful in seeing the back of the net, but junior forward Samuel Diaz followed up in the 52nd minute with an off-target attempt. While the Saints' offense maintained their concentration, Nicholson and Martinez were able to offset the push, making two attempts between the 68th and 69th minute. As a result of two offensive pushes, Nicholson gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead in the 69th minute. The Saints remained diligent offensively, but senior goalkeeper Kristian Slaby denied Marymount any opportunity.
